Early signs of pregnancy                                                                                           Midwife Claire Parry

One of the earliest signs of pregnancy is a missed period. Pregnancy tests that you can buy from the chemist are just as reliable as going to your GP to confirm your pregnancy.

You can use the test from the day you are expecting your period. It gives a reliable result. However, if its negative and you still have not had

your period after a few days then test again. Its possible that you may have been slightly early the first time.

Other signs of pregnancy include changes in your breasts. They can feel fuller and tender due to hormone changes. The areola can become darker and nipples larger.

Also, you may notice an increasing need to pass urine. This is

due to your uterus becoming larger and pressing on your bladder

You may feel nauseous, at times you may actually vomit. It’s thought that this is due to an increasing level of hormones in your system.

You could feel overwhelmingly tired and you may experience differences in food taste. Maybe

something you love suddenly makes you feel sick just to smell it.

Many women ‘feel’ like they are pregnant. They can’t explain it, they just do. Sometimes you may feel some of the above signs before you actually miss your period.

Whichever way you discover your pregnancy, get ready for an amazing time of your life.
